Cute Records

I love thriftshops! Found lots of new additions to my record collection. Cute vintage children's records. I love the illustrations on the covers!

This one is Party Songs for Happy Little Folks.

This is a record with stories and songs telling the Mary Poppins story. Bonus score: it also has a great illustrated book inside the cover!

Even though the cover is damaged, i think this one is my new favorite.
The further adventures of Mary and her little Lamb.

This one is adorable too. Sweet retro songs from Sesamestreet.

And since the record inside was broken i got it for free! You can still play the record,
just not the first songs on either side. (try that with a broken cd!)

Cute stamps

Bought during my trip to Amsterdam. Cute tiny stamps with 3 stamppads all with four colors of ink!

(Hema is the name of the store. Sort of department store, large but not huge, fast changing inventory, great home decor items with lovely colors and designs and wonderful office/school supplies. I wish NY had a Hema!)

Playmates for kids?

Not sure if Playmates is a proper name for a kids coloring book. Makes me think about the girls next door and Hugh Hefner..
I picked this up at my last thrift run. It was only 25 cents and i love the cover. Hoped the inside would be filled with cute coloring pages, but not this time. The drawings were definitely done by a different illustrator then the one who made the cover.
Thinking about framing it.

Wilbur the world traveller

Meet Wilbur the pink piggy. He is staying with us for a little while. He belongs to a 7th grade student from Des Moines, Iowa. His travels are part of a school project. So far he went from Iowa to a couple of places in The Netherlands, then to Iceland and now arrived in New York, the Big Apple.

He even has a cute backpack! There's a passport inside with stories about his adventures everywhere.
I think he is very happy sleeping over at our place. All our little friends love him very much.

He is already deep in conversation with Kuri and Suki, the two sock monkeys. Now Suki wants to travel the world too. But Kuri is scared of flying, so if she goes they will have a long distance relationship for a while. Kuri is a bit sad about this, but knows that if his girlfriend wants to go he will have to wish her well and bless her adventures.

With this post there are two questions.
1. I'm looking for somebody in the USA to take Wilbur in as a guest. After showing him a good time, send him back to his owner in Iowa. He is expected to be back from his journey before April 30th this year. Wilbur has found a place for his upcoming adventure! Thank you Roxanne!
2. Second question, is there anyone sweet out there who would want to give Suki, the pink sockmonkey, a place to stay if she would want to go on a trip around the world too? I don't want to send her off just like that, it would be nice to know that she has a place where she can stay for awhile and be taken care of. All you have to do is write in her little passport and send her on to someone else in the world with her passport and adventures. Thank you Mari! She would love to stay with you for awhile!

So i'm looking for two people, one in the USA to send Wilbur to, and one anywhere in the world as a first adventure spot for Suki. Please leave a comment (with email addy) if you want to play! I'll contact you for details.

My my melody

My Melody in the size i think she would be in real life. (15 inch top to bottom)
I was so lucky to find this huge sticker in the 99ct store around the corner. It's a bootleg, but a very good one. They only had one, otherwise i would have bought some more and gave them away here, i know there are more out there loving My Melody.
From all Sanrio characters i think Melody is my favorite. And i really love Little Twin Stars too. I'm old school like that.

The My Melody sticker will go on the fridge. But not stickered on there. I'm not sure it is repositionable. So i will use some poster tack gummy stuff.

On another note, sorry for my lack in posting. I have a lot to show and tell (as usual) and i have prepared some pictures and posts, so i promise more posts this week.

More Hearts

Thanks to Shibooya there are some more Valentine's vibes in our house.
She has sent me these three lovely heart shaped cookie cutters! Thank you so much lady, i will be baking soon.
And you know, everyday is Valentine's day in this house. So the heart shaped cookie cutters will definitely be used more than only on V-day!

To make: Heart Shaped Paperclips

Ok, so i really was planning to take one or two photos of how to make these heart shaped paperclips. Only one or two since it is so easy to do. But just after i made this picture, my camera's battery decided it was time to stop working. So i'm sorry. A written tutorial explanation will have to do.

It's almost Valentine's day and i see so many loving crafts on blogs everywhere and i myself don't know where to find the time to dedicate craft time to Love Day.
Until i rememebered this from back in highschool. Or earlier. School days.
Too long ago.

Get yourself some paperclips. It will work with any paperclip, but i used red and whites since that would fit Valentines day the most. It is easier with somewhat easy to bend paperclips, but if you only have those grey iron office paperclips, it will work too, you just have to use a bit more force.
Train those fingermuscles!

Hold the paperclip in between your thumb and pointerfinger on both the long edges of the paperclip. Press your fingers together with the paperclip in between, thus bending the paperclip. Stop pressing when the paperclip reaches the desired shape.
It will already look somewhat like a heart but not completely. When you slide it on a paper with the heart part on front you will see the love!

My apologies for the dirty looking cuttingboard in the background of this photo. There's work going on here you know.

Mail surprises

Who doesn't like surprises in the mail? I know i do!

And i'm feeling very spoiled.
Should have posted this earlier since it arrived in my mailbox a while ago already. Dear Roxanne has sent me all these goodies for our cute and crafty swap. How sweet is the poptart cozy she made for my pink ipod?
She surprised me with cute Hello Kitty goodies and pink poodle erasers, pretty postal stamps, vintage handkerchiefs and a gorgeous clutch which she embellished with a little bit of sparkle on top!
And then the other day my mailbox was happily filled with a little package from my friend Tess from London. Oh, how i love tiny things! Look at these.
Small Pucca's, Hello Kitties and My Melodies! They all have a little hanging loop on top so i can make something with them. Ohoh what to do with them? I adore them. The pucca figurines have a little edge so they can sit on the edge of something. Too cute!
And she also added this Hello Kitty lollipop/popping candy too. I normally never open cute candies, just keep them and admire their cuteness. But in this case i'm tempted. Because A) i love popping candy + lollipops and B) it looks like there might be stickers inside. Of course i'm curious and want to look at those. If there are any.
Well, it says '48 stickers to collect' on the package...

Tiny apple friend

My new felted tiny friend.
"Body" part is 1,5 inch (3 cm) high.

This time i tried to use a little bit of embroidery to decorate the face and the leaf. Wasn't sure how or if it would work, but you know how i do, just try and see how it turns out.

I think it worked.

Looking forward to making more felted creations. It is a very good craft for me to do at the end of a long day's work when you finally want to give yourself some time off but still cannot sit down and do absolutely nothing.

What time is it?

I didn't have a clock in my workspace yet.
Yes, i wear a watch and my cellphone shows the time, but for only one dollar i needed this clock. I assume you understand.

I love the Queens thriftshops. Haven't found a lot yet, but there are a couple of good ones around. And unlike the ones in Manhattan, in Queens you can still find some thriftshop prizes.

If you're anything like me, you want to see a closeup picture of the cuteness going on inside the clock.

Resolutions

Yes, got to loose a few pounds. Moving to a new country obviously (!) means having to try out all the new unknown candies and cakes and other sweet treats. Mmmm my belly likes!
But i'm not too worried about my weight. There are more important things in life.

Things like, don't take on too much at once. Finish projects sooner. Daily Blogging. Stay on top of my administration. Get better at everything i do.

So i'm starting all this today. But first i need to clean. I don't know what happens to me on January first, but i always have to clean and organize.

HAPPY 2008 EVERYBODY! All the best for the new year!

It says:
Happy pinbear lovely cute style
Pin Bear is made from brown solid fabric

I am somewhat of a Kawaii freak. I know a lot of cute Asian brands making cute things. But i had never heard of the "Yellow Bus" brand. It's a Korean brand and i will definitely be on the lookout if i ever find anything else by them.

Self Promotion Anyone?

This is my cute 'Happy Girls' album. It's basically a photo album, but i use it to store pretty illustrated flyers and promo postcards.

And since my new 'sunny' PO Box loves to be filled with lovely mail, i ask you: are you up for some shameless self-promotion?

Are you an illustrator or do you have a crafty shop? Most important, do you have pretty flyers or promo postcards?

Send them to me and if it's pretty or cute, i will not only adore it, but also put a picture of it on my blog and link to your website!

Have a Dollyday!

Still have some holiday shopping to do? Check out the recently opened store of UK based artist Rebecca Nia aka DollyDay. She makes the most fabulously cute jewellery and other accessories!

I especially love the line of holiday items (christmas pudding necklaces, gingerbread pins, candy cane necklaces!), but the 'all year round' products are too pretty too! If you're anything like me and obsessed with all things cute, you will drool over her candy necklaces - i think i need a smiley faced gumball machine on a chain! - the wonderland brooches and oh, did i mention the strawberry chocolates on a necklace that look so real you want to take a bite?

Got to love it. DollyDay. Go now. Drool. Enjoy.

Calling Cuteness

The area of NY I'm now living in, has a wonderful mixture of different nationalities. Which is something i love since i came from Amsterdam which is a melting pot of cultures. So it feels natural to me.
There are a lot of people from Eastern Europe living here too. I never knew they liked cute things. Look at this adorable phonecard my Love found for me at the corner store. Too cute right?
And it gives you a lot of calling minutes too!

Cute (old) Drawing

Recently came across this old drawing i did somewhere in 2000. Didn't have a blog then so never showed it before. I think i drew it based on other manga pictures but i'm not sure, don't really remember where and why i made it.
If anyone recognizes this girl from a manga cartoon, let me know!

this, that and something else

I opened my mailbox and found that my Love had sent me this adorable image. How super cute!
I don't know where he found it, it reminds me of a page from a coloring book. All of a sudden i want to go to the petting zoo and feed a small deer. Don't we love Bambi?

My friend has delivered her babygirl! I'm so proud of her. The little girl is an Indonesian/Dutch/Italian mix and already looks so pretty! They haven't send out their baby announcement cards, so i won't show the design i did for it here yet. Wouldn't be fair. But i did dove in my fabric scrap box and whipped up a pink congratulations with the new baby card.

I went to the market yesterday to get some zippers and found these wonderful old fabrics. I really wasn't planning to buy that many, but the lady was so kind to make me a deal i couldn't say no to. I bought some pink trimmings too. I was so happy that i totally forgot about those zippers i needed to get!

clueless but cute

No clue what to do with these yet, but they are sooo cute!

Found in the bargainbin, they are meant as hairbands but i think i will deconstruct them and use as charms/beads. The rings around the little bears are filled with little balls that move around in the ring.

I was right huh, clueless but cute.

about last week

About last week. A little bit of this and that.
Me and my girls went to this lovely shop, Het Grote Avontuur (The Large Adventure). It's always ooh-ing and aah-ing over there. We kept our control and didn't even buy anything. I did make some pictures i wanted to share.

The flowers on the dark wall were cut out from (i think) wrapping paper and glued on. A great inspirational idea to put in my little decoration notebook!

This last Sunday a flea market was held in the sportscenter at the end of my street. Only a ten minute walk to many possible treasures. It was a bit rainy, but it was an indoor market so i put my umbrella up and walked down the street.
Glad i did, because the market was fun, met some kind people and found some goodies i'm real happy about!
I love all the cards i've found. I think i never came across that many additions to my collection at once before!

Just can't control myself when i find something adorable and not too expensive. The little hearts fabric is a baby outfit that i gave to my friend, tomorrow the tiny sneakers will be wrapped. I think every time i visit, i have a little surprise something something for her.
The shiny Hello Kitty was a gift too, but that one was for me!!
A very nice former colleague of my mom goes to Asia regularly and almost always brings something small and cute back for me! Thank you! It's a Hello Kitty keychain locker. When you open her up, there's a small mirror inside.
Pretty.

it's a pair

One of my most precious things in my house is this sweet vintage doggy clock. I have found it maybe two years ago during a thrifting spree. The clock does work, but runs a tad bit slow. So for me the doggies are there for decorative purposes only.
The two glass swans in the foreground were a little surprise gift i got from Love one day.

Pollie Poodle

Pollie Poodle, Ducky Quack and the bunny Wiesje Wollepop. Wonderful illustrations done by Yvonne Perrin. From the Nutricia childrens book series from the early 1960's. Back in the days you could save up for them by collecting points from the Nutricia coffeecreamer. The entire original series exists of 15 precious booklets. Nutricia did do a reprint in the '90's of 8 of the booklets. Until now i've found numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8. Hope to find the remaining ones on a lucky thrifty day and make my serie complete.

I've found this link where somebody scanned in the pages of Wiesje Wollepop. It's in Dutch, obviously, but there is no language barrier in looking at the pictures!

Be friends and play nice

Introducing 3 of my small vintage vinyl dolls from my doll collection.
I love the way they look so similar, but so different at the same time with their different facial expressions. So happy. Or so sad.
Don't you just love those adorable freckles? (as far as you can see those on the picture)

The curly one on the left had a signature H.K. on the bottom. My first thought was that that indicated Hong Kong. But why would it? Wouldn't it then say "Hong Kong" instead? It might as well be the makers name. It's a vintage mystery.
The other two are marked as made by Iwai Industrial in 1971 in Korea.

Monchhichi cards

This is the cutest card game i have ever seen!
In Dutch the cardgame is called 'Kwartet'. I don't know how to call it in English. (wikipedia tells me it is a typical old Dutch game, so maybe there isn't even an English name for it?) There are sets of 4 cards that you have to collect during the game. With this Monchhichi game, every set is a 4-photo storyline. Super adorable!
Who wants to play some cards?

Is this Ismoyo's playground?

See whom I was welcomed by this morning!

I'm planning on making some more, attach straps or something so you can hang them somewhere and see how much fun they have. That would immediately solve my dilemma of should i attach the cupcakeholders or keep them loose so they can hop out when they want to. Well, i'm still finalizing the ideas for these cupcake-cuties.
One day i will open up shop and i want to have something that is really Ismoyo. Maybe these can start it off.
