Dream Coming True: Tokyo!

Part of an applique design that appeared in my book 100 applique motifs.
For years and years i've been wanting to travel to Japan. I have said many times to my husband, who is a musician, that if he ever had to go to Tokyo, i would go with him! He then just smiled and said yes dear. Since there was no indication that a trip like that was on the horizon.
Until a little while back. He started working with a Japanese producer, got released on a compilation EP, asked to do some more work, and now invited to come over to perform! Whoohoo! I knew it would happen some day!!
My dream is coming true, we are flying to Japan at the end of this month!
Since it's been my dream for so long, i already know about a lot of places that i want to visit, a lot of shops i want to go to, i even already know what trains to take! I'll be arriving prepared!
The flight from NY to Tokyo will be a whopping 14,5 hours so i'm definitely bringing something to craft on to pass the time. What is a better inflight craft? Crochet or embroidery? (can you even bring embroidery needles on a plane nowadays?) Any suggestions?

Woohoo, cool! Of course we want to see lots of pictures :)
And I think crocheting would be perfect on a flight.
congratulations! you will have so much fun :) I don't know how to embroider or crochet- so I would just read and/or sleep. Take lots of pictures please! :)
That is soooo exciting!!! I can't wait to read about your experience. You may want to double check about the embroidery needles on the plane tho.
That is so awesome. I hope you find lots of really cute things there. Well, its Japan. I KNOW you will.
Here is a link to things you can't take on a plane with you:

OOOH!! That sounds so exciting! Have tonsss of fun!!!
i'm not there yet, but in my mind i'm so already there!
i will definitely take lots and lots of pictures. Probably so many you all will get sick of it! Japan photos again?! lol!
I smuggled sewing needles on the plane to Thailand. Just left them in the bottom of my husband's on flight bag, they don't show up on metal detectors because they are such a small thin item. I embroidered on the plane and no one cared, even though needles are a "sharp object". If you wanted to cut embroidery thread while on the flight you can take one of those things of dental floss and use it to cut the thread. Japan - very cool!!
Hi I like your blog a lot!! and it is so nice that your dream will come alive, I live in Japon for almost two years now, you will have a great time, but you know that.
About the trip well y take many airplanes a year, it is really depends of the security guards but, for crochet it is ok if you take bamboo hooks.. and well scissors... there is no way to take it, i do not know about the embroidery but whatever thery don`t like it they take it you don`t see it any more, it happened to me in Portugal.
And before you will pass the security check they have information all around and signs of what you cannot bring into the flight. Also you can find all the inforamtion in the airline website.
Have a wonderful trip!!! enjoy Japan good luck.

I think i best just stick with bringing a book to read and a book to write and sketch in.
