Photos: Pasar Malam Senang
Yesterday I was visiting my parents, when one of my aunts called to ask if we wanted to go with her and my uncle to a small Pasar Malam in Amstelveen. For those who don't know, a Pasar Malam is an Indonesian market. Pasar means market, Malam means evening. Indeed orginally most eveningmarkets, but currently like here in the Netherlands, a Pasar Malam is a large gettogether market of Indonesian people with lots of food, music, dance and old friends.
The largest and most known Pasar Malam in the Netherlands is the Pasar Malam Besar in Den Hague. The one I went to yesterday is multiple times smaller. But that didn't matter to me and my family, we had a good time anyway.
Because I also love photography I took some pictures to share my day at the Pasar Malam Senang. Hope you enjoy!

Wow, the photos you took are fantastic! Such colour, variety and vibrance! I love your blog; it's full of pretty stuff. Haha, don't think I'm superficial now ok? ;)
Btw, we have "pasar malams" in Singapore too. In Malay, it means night market. They are open only at night. Pasar malams here are usually set up whenever we have a major festival, like Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, etc.
Thank you sharlet. I'm in love with how my photos came out too.
And what you're describing as the Pasar Malams in Singapore, is the same as the ones from Indonesia which we now have over here, because there is a large community of people with Indonesian roots living in the Netherlands.
The meaning of the words is also the same, but Malay and Bahasa Indonesia are almost identical right?
Yes, they are almost the same. Really cool that you get this stuff too where you're living. :)
Yeah, i think so too.
It's because a lot of people from Indonesia came here back in the days. (Like my mom and her family did) And ofcourse some of the culture came with them. In our hearts Indonesia is missed. So the Pasar Malams are a great way to feel really senang again. And meet old friends. And eat. And speak Bahasa again. And sing and dance. Or just listen and look.
Well, you know how it is.
