How I celebrate Christmas this year
Yesterday there was Christmas Night. My entire extended family comes together in my grandma's small apartment to celebrate Christmas. We sit together, talk, laugh, eat sandwiches and just before midnight we make an attempt to sing Christmas songs. Otherwise my grandma threatens to go to sleep. Which can be hilarious since she threatens to kick everyone out too! So we sing. Afterwards, me and one of my cousins daughter read a bit from the bible. Than small white candles are passed around and lit. We say the Our Father and then the incredible moment of kissing, walking, getting stuck starts. Everyone wishes everyone a merry Christmas. People will start walking around, figuring out tactics (if i stand still everyone will pass by me), traffic jams occur in the middle of the livingroom, did i kiss you already, did i hugg you already? After a couple of minutes of mayhem, calmness returns when the glasses with red currant gin are filled. There was a time I thought there was a whole religious idea attached to the red gin. Like the blood of Jesus or something. But it seems that back in the day, this part of our family Christmas tradition, started out just because it was the drink my grandma loved!
By this time kids are falling asleep and the evening comes to an end.
Following you Christmas Eve (24th) is Christmas First (25th) and Christmas Second(26th). Some people even add an unofficial Christmas Third! I don't.
Tomorrow I will celebrate with my Mom, Dad, Brother and Boyfriend at my parents place. My mans father, stephmom, little brother and sister will also join us! And two aunts, two uncles, and two cousins. Just a little part of the fam..
We will have a homemade Indonesian Christmas dinner, prepared by my mom with help from my auntie, followed by opening presents from under the tree. I'm looking forward to tomorrow a whole lot.
As a Christmas present to myself, I gave the first day of Christmas to myself! My boyfriend is visiting his mom on the other side of the country and i agreed with myself that today i don't have to anything productive if i don't want to. I can do exactly what i feel like doing and in particular things that get lowered in priority on busy days. So I'm writing in my blog, I'm getting behind my sewing machine, i make some collages, enjoy a long lunch, listen to music, take a bath. Pure relaxation.
I'm happy today.
